A SIMPLE GIFT
Information Mental Health Promotion Project (Hospital for Sick Children).
This video is a unique Canadian videotape designed to promote mental health
and wellness. It emphasizes the significant impact that the quality of
early parenting has on later socio-emotional development. This video provides
specific, well-researched information of the infant’s attachment relationship
with parents in the first year of life. The information is presented in
clear, easy-to-understand language with demonstration of when and how
to respond to an infant’s distress. The video is suitable for parents
from many cultures. A Simple Gift provides a way to increase parents’
sensitivity to their young children and thus promote their child’s ability
to learn, cope, work, and form satisfying relationships throughout life.

ABILITY CAMP: CENTRE FOR CONDUCTIVE EDUCATION
Ability Camp is currently the only full-time facility offering Conductive
Education programs in Canada for children with motor disorders. This program,
designed after the international programs in Hungary and England, teaches
children motor control by using repetitive exercises in an intensive five-or-six
hour per day segregated group setting. Ability Camp is unlike any other
Conductive Education Centre in the world in that it provides on-site accommodations
for the child and parents during their stay. This has allowed a unique
atmosphere where children have peers to play with after the program, and
parents form very close friendships with each other.

BOBART TREATMENT, THE
The Neuro-Development Treatment (NDT) is a method of treatment first developed
by Dr. Karl Bobath and Mrs. Berta Bobath in London, England over fifty
years ago. Its aim is to give children with cerebral palsy the experience
of more normal posture and movement. Through specialized ways of handling,
stiffness can be reduced, muscle control against gravity increased and
fluctuating muscle activity stabilized. Depending on the severity of the
condition, children maybe better able to learn how to sit up, used their
hands, stand, walk and speak. The Bobath approach is an interactive process
among the involved individual, the caregivers and the practitioners. Intervention
involves the process of direct handling to provide facilitation and inhibition
to optimize function, which includes the interaction of many systems.

with disabilities face in their quest to be recognized as sexual beings,
free to express their sexuality and lead sexually active lives. Untold
desires allows people with disabilities to speak about issues which are
important to them: choice, privacy, the right to have sexual relationships
and the right to have children. They speak frankly about their experiences
in search of sexually fulfilled lives and their honesty in both dramatic
and moving. This video also offers appealing and positive images for people
with disabilities, as well as breaking down the stereotypes that render
the disabled person as non-sexual or perverse in the eyes of the non-disabled
